In Summer 2023, I joined Chime as a Product Design Intern for Liquidity & Insurance Design team.

I worked with an instantly amazing group of people, and in such a short amount of time, they helped me grow as a designer and person in ways I couldn’t even imagine. Working with this talented team heavily impacted my workflow and shaped my view of product design in today’s industry. I’ll forever be thankful to Chime, my managers, my mentor, and the close friends I’ve made for changing my life.What I worked on could not be entirely shown in public, but feel free to reach out to me and we can talk further about this adventure!

What did I do?

In my first project, I worked with Lending team to create the Loan Payment Celebration. This celebration aims to enhance the payment experience and provide a sense of accomplishment and motivation for members when they successfully make loan payments. The objectives are to celebrate their progress towards financial stability, encourage on-time payment behavior, and foster responsible financial habits.

In this project, I worked with MyPay team, did user testing, and created over 20 motion patterns to further visual polish. MyPay is an innovative product that gives members their earned pay on demand. As the team aim to drive growth with this new product, it needs a product screen that is eye-catching and memorable so that when people see our ads and landing page, they immediately understand what MyPay does and become interested in Chime.

Reflection

🎨Balance creativity with design system’s flexibility.
I have three stages in Chime.
- Learn — Be familiar with Chime’s design system.
- Explore — How can I still keep creativity with restriction?
- Elevate — Identify the opportunities in existing designs and improve them.

💪Be a team-player.
I have three stages in Chime.
- Communicate (Sync & Async) with XFN team.
- Present in L&I weekly workshop and to different stakeholders.
- Practice QA exercises, pay attention to detail.
