Secondary Research

Humans have devised countless ways to differentiate themselves from each other, language, geography, wealth, or just the color of their skin. It's a long-standing fact that in our society, there is a group of people who are locked out of mainstream life because of their sensory deficits. Cruelty, madness, despair... this is the story of tens of millions of deaf people. They are in the same world as we are, and yet like a completely different world. To better understand the current situation of deaf people’s needs, I researched several existing products for this group.

After researching, I found existing products focus on voice detection and translation, text typing, and sign language. However, how can a deaf person live without thr product? In addition to being a translation tool, language rehabilitation should be added to the product to further improve the communication status of the hearing impaired with the outside world.

User Research

Based on my secondary research and I conducted more in-depth research in the group of deaf and hearing loss people to discover their needs. I found that hearing loss is a long-term and subtle healing process, and the cost of treatment is very high.

The biggest negative side effect of hearing loss, with almost 56% deaf/hearing loss people claiming that their communication had worsened or were harder to follow due to their hearing loss. People with hearing loss had various concerns hearing aids products, too. The biggest issue is product reliability.

How to create a communication tool for the hearing-impaired people, help them transmit words to further improve the current situation of the hearing-impaired people communication with the outside world?

Design Highlight

Real-time voice-to-text conversion helps the hearing-impaired to communicate with the outside world without barriers. When the APP is used in the backstage, a floating frame can be opened, and even after switching the APP, the external sound can be converted into text and displayed in the floating frame, which is convenient for the hearing impaired.
Help the hearing-impaired to carry out language rehabilitation training. Users can use the pronunciation test function in the on-boarding part to test their pronunciation level, understand their pronunciation level, and provide professional speech rehabilitation programs. After the test is completed, users can carry out targeted training according to their own test situation.
Realize the function of phone text translation to help the hearing-impaired communicate with friends and family by phone. Chat with family and friends while translating the conversation in real-time. Using this function, the voice on the other end of the phone can be converted into text and displayed on the screen of the mobile phone, and the user can type the words, so that the deaf person can "make a phone call".
It can test the degree of hearing loss in both ears and perform intelligent hearing aids, which requires wearing headphones to use. Users can perform a hearing test first, and after obtaining the test results, the system will intelligently select the appropriate compensation decibel to help users hear the sound. Can help users with moderate hearing loss to hear like a hearing aid.
